At Joyful Servant we offer a very special program for our pre-school - 2nd graders. The program is called Godly Play. Godly Play is a method of a Christian education and spiritual direction for children ages two to twelve. The goal is to teach children the art of using religious language - parable, sacred story, silence, and liturgical action - to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives. In Godly Play, we prepare a special environment for children to work with adult guides. Two teachers guide the session, making time for the children to:
- greet their classmates
- prepare for the presentation
- enjoy a presentation based on a parable, sacred story, or liturgical action
- respond to the presentation through shared wondering, with their own expressive art, or using prepared lesson materials
- prepare and share a snack
- say goodbye and rejoin their family
