Pastor - Tom Struck |
Becoming a pastor is a third career for me. From bricklayer to public school teacher, a New Year's Day in 1984 'called' me into pastoral ministry - building and teaching of a different kind. After seminary in Berkeley, CA, Windi and I and our two children moved to Clarkston, Michigan where I served Calvary Lutheran as assistant pastor for nearly six years. In 1994 Joyful Servant was looking for a pastor, and we were looking to be closer to our families.
I enjoy the variety in being a pastor. It's a privilege to be part of so many important moments in people's lives - from the great joys to the heart-breaking sorrows.
God's grace and the Spirit's guidance continue to draw me into a deeper relationship with Jesus. My goal in life is to continue 'growing up' into what God wants me to be - a lifelong student of Jesus, letting the grace and mercy, justice and love we find in Christ be the foundation and motivation of my life - and I enjoy companions on the way.

Music Minister - Beth Randolph
Beth is the person in charge of all things musical at Joyful Servant. She provides the musical leadership for all worship services and other special events.
This includes planning the music for each Sunday's services, organizing and directing the various worship team musicians and maintaining the music library. She also plans and organizes concerts, festivals and drama events at Joyful Servant.
Providing music education for the congregation is another big job Beth has. She introduces new songs on a regular basis for the congregation to learn.
The music program at Joyful Servant is growing. We now have a choir and four worship teams formed, and are actively recruiting new musicians. If you are interested in participating in the music program, please
. She'd love to talk with you.

Administrative assistant - Diane Miller
Every organization has someone working quietly behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. Joyful Servant is lucky to have Diane Miller filling the administrative assistant position. She works a flexible schedule, and you can usually catch up with her during weekday afternoons at the church office.
Her duties include greeting visitors to the office, answering the phones, taking care of the church mail, coordinating building use, putting together the weekly bulletin and announcements, and of course, filing and record-keeping.
Diane also purchases and hands out diapers each Wednesday through the JSLC Diaper Ministry. For congregation members needing a ride, she's there to help out.
Just in case no one has mentioned it lately - "Thanks Diane! You're doing a great job".

Youth minister - Laura Gifford

I have the honor of working with the middle and high school youth of Joyful Servant. I organize and run programs, activities and fundraising efforts for youth in grades 6-12. I am aided by a dedicated body of parents and other volunteer helpers.
I am a historian by training; I grew up in northeast Portland and hold degrees from Pacific Lutheran University (BA) and the University of California, Los Angeles (MA, PhD). I started my involvement with youth at Joyful Servant as a Sunday School teacher and have been sucked into the vortex! I feel called to serve as advocate, friend, teacher and mentor to these wonderful kids--and I learn from them daily, as well.
When I am not enjoying the company of JSLC's fabulous youth, I teach college courses and publish in the field of modern American history. My husband and I also spend a considerable amount of time chasing our preschooler.
